About this engine

The engine in a generation of Hiace taxis, Hilux bakkies, Ventures and Stallions, and in more forklifts than anyone has counted. The 4Y is a cast-iron, single-cam, eight-valve 2.2 with a carburettor and a distributor: nothing electronic to strand you, and every part of it understood by every mechanic in the country. It is slow and it is unbothered by that. The unit photographed is marked "4Y" by the yard on the cam cover and comes as a complete carburetted assembly with the distributor, alternator and accessory drive fitted, as shown. Sold as a used import, exactly as it came out of the donor vehicle and as photographed. The engine code above is the one marked on this unit; we confirm it against the stamped engine number before dispatch. Compression and leak-down testing is available on request before you commit, and every unit carries a 3-month warranty against internal mechanical failure.

This list is not exhaustive. If your chassis is not here, ask — most swaps come down to mounts and sump clearance.
