About this engine

The engine that earned the Hilux its reputation. The 22R is a cast-iron, single-cam, eight-valve 2.4 that makes its torque just off idle and is happiest working — not a fast engine, an unkillable one. Longitudinal rear-wheel-drive layout, mechanical simplicity throughout, and nothing electronic to strand you. This unit is a complete longitudinal assembly with the viscous fan, water pump and accessory drive still fitted, as the photographs show, and is marked "22R" by the yard. Sold as a used import, exactly as it came out of the donor vehicle and as photographed. The engine code above is the one marked on this unit; we confirm it against the stamped engine number before dispatch. Compression and leak-down testing is available on request before you commit, and every unit carries a 3-month warranty against internal mechanical failure.
